CodeCamp

Code Camp Agenda is online

The preliminary agenda for the code camp is online. We have tried to be very logical in scheduling sessions.

We have introduced several new tracks and sessions. Here is a brief description about them:

Developing the Developer: The focus here is on developing the career and inter-personal skills of a developer. We have sessions on resume writing, interviewing, blogging, making technical presentations, selling software, and some other interesting ones like - what your boss cares about (or should) and  are you a programmer or a script kiddie? Interesting. It should be fun to see how this track evolves in future code camps.

Bootcamp: This is the Getting Started 101 kind of track. Most of the sessions are beginner sessions. They do not assume any prior knowledge about the subject matter. These sessions are most suitable for people with 0-1 years of experience with .NET Technologies. Some of these sessions may appeal to 2-3 years experience developers also.

Black Belt: We have seen requests in previous code camps that ask for advanced sessions. I have also noticed that VSLive runs Virtual Black Belt Tracks. Well here we are - instead of a virtual black belt track we have a dedicated room for it. The hope is that advanced developers can get their black belt in Karate by attending these sessions. Just kidding :-). However, all these sessions are supposed to extend your thought process to the extreme limits. All the sessions provide practical insights gained by applying the basic principles over a period of time. I would love to hear your feedback on these.

Ask the Expert / Birds of Feather: Call these sessions your place to ask any questions to the known experts. I have to mention here that some of these experts will charge you more than 150 dollars per hour for expert advice like this. It is your chance to ask any question, specific to the technologies they focus on. We have 5 sessions - Web, SQL/BI,  Architecture, Sharepoint, Futures/Cool Stuff. Our hope is that the session moderators will encourage lively discussion. In case, there are not many questions from the audience, the moderators can discuss anything they consider to be cool in that area. If your question is intelligent / thoughtful / or plain appealing to the moderators - you may be in for a surprise swag item. I would encourage you to ask as many questions as you can. We have kept these sessions in the end, so that you get a taste of technology first.

Highlight Session: For this code camp we have planned one highlight session - "Show your coolest code - 7 minutes to code fame".  I'll be posting a separate blog entry on it very soon. However, let me explain you the basic idea. The idea is that any pre-registered participant can show a snippet of code (in C# or VB.NET). There would be a panel of judges who will evaluate the effectiveness of that code on the basis of several factors. Every participant will have 7 minutes to present. The participant needs to claim that the code has been written by him/her. If the code has been adapted from somewhere - the source needs to be cited. Watch out for a blog entry for the rules and details. In the meantime, if you have any questions, you can contact me directly. My contact information is there on Contact Us page.

I would appreciate any feedback on the agenda.

Thanks!
